Soviet Era Iconography, Part One, a photo essay

I shot these photos in the city of Komsomol Na Amur during the summer of 2015. My intention was to share what remains there of the iconography that once defined the Soviet-era visual aesthetic. There are also images of a train station, both interior and exterior, and a flame and memorial for those from Russia's Far East who died fighting against Germany in what the Russians call The Great Patriotic War. 

 


Above is a statue of Yuri Gagarin, the first cosmonaut in the world. This is the park that is named after him.
