Matthew A. Hamilton, novelist and poet

I have just finished reading Matthew A. Hamilton's The Wishing Tree, and for anyone interested in a story of humanity and survival during war, this is the novel for you.

The Wishing Tree was published by Winter Goose in 2020.

The novel brings to life the Armenian Genoicide by chronicling the journey of 14-year-old Valia Stepanyan during the fighting between Turkey and Armenia in July of 1915. An Armenian from Adana, Turkey, Valia, her family and friends suffer the indignities of enduring that historic deportation.

Matt is also a writer of poetry, and his books include, The Land of Four Rivers, and Lips Open And Divine, which was published in 2016 by Winter Goose.

Matt is a former Soldier, Congressional Aide, US Peace Corps Volunteer, and Benedictine Monk. He holds a Master of Fine Arts from Fairfield University and is a three time Pushcart Prize nominee. His stories and poems have appeared in a variety of national and international journals, including Atticus Review, Coe Review, Noctua Review, Emerge Literary Journal, Burnt Bridge, Boston Literary Magazine, Cha: An Asian Literary Journal, and The Transnational He is also a recent graduate of the University of Alabama, where his Master's research focus was blockchain technology and how it can contribute to improve transparency and accountability in government.

Here is a link to Matt's first chapbook of poems, The Land of Four Rivers, published by Cervena Barva Press, which won the 2013 Best Poetry Book award from U.S. Peace Corps Writers and Readers.
