Michael Golub's fantastic new album, Relations And Revelations

Here is a link to Michael Golub's new album, Relations And Revelations. In these six new songs, Michael's writing and vocals, along with his arranging, and his ability to play multiple instruments accompanied by the powerful percussion work of Joe DeGregory remind me of Dream Theatre, and some early Genesis. The future looks bright for these young, talented musicians.

Michael also plays horns with his older brother Andrew, a first-rate saxophonist in his own right who mentored in New York City under Joe Lovano. They form the eponymous duo, the Golub Brothers, and listening to them I can't help but draw parallels to Randy and Michael Brecker.

The Golub Brothers are a two-person horns section based in New York City.  Although only two brothers, they expertly play a multitude of instruments: trumpet, flugelhorn, saxophones, clarinets, flutes and more.  While being able to use all these instruments has been helpful with performing, it has also informed them on the importance of timbre and its effect on arranging.

Here they perform in Episode 9, A Strange Arrangement, a podcast on Podbean.

In this episode, they bring in a big arrangement set for multiple wind instruments, and talk about how they sequence each instrument to inform the feel of the arrangement.
